Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that Indian Railways has implemented extensive measures to handle the increased passenger traffic during the festive season, including the establishment of dedicated holding areas at approximately 30 stations located across Bihar and Uttar Pradesh to enhance passenger comfort and convenience.
Speaking on the heightened travel demand amid the Chhath festival, Vaishnaw stated that over 12,000 special trains have been scheduled in addition to the existing regular services to meet the needs of passengers. To date, approximately 1.6 crore passengers have utilised these special trains, and a comparable volume is anticipated for the return trips following the festival.
The minister emphasised that the railway team has operated in a methodical manner to address the abrupt influx of travellers during this period. “We have ensured smooth operations through the use of holding areas, CCTV surveillance, handheld Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs), and better passenger movement patterns,” he stated.
While extending his best wishes on the occasion of Chhath Puja, Vaishnaw pointed out that the specialised holding areas at major stations in North Bihar and the Purvanchal region are enabling passengers to sit comfortably and access the stations in a structured and orderly fashion.
