Ten people were killed and 27 injured when a pickup van collided head-on with a bus in the Salempur area of Bulandshahr on Sunday, officials said.
The accident occurred on the Budaun-Meerut state highway.
The passengers, it's reported, were labourers heading home to Aligarh for the festival of Rakshabandhan.
According to Bulandshahr SSP Shlok Kumar the injured had been admitted to hospitals in Bulandshahr, Meerut, and Aligarh.
One person had been critically injured.
All the killed persons were males and the 27 who were injured included women and children from their families.
"Ten people were killed and 27 were injured in the accident. The injured have been sent to the hospital," District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh told reporters.
He said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had taken cognisance of the incident and directed him and other officials to ensure that the injured get the best medical treatment.
