An 11-year-old girl, who had been missing for a week, was discovered to have been raped and subsequently murdered in Surat, Gujarat, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
Two individuals, originally from Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, were arrested in connection with the heinous crime, according to police sources.
The young girl vanished from her residence on March 18, prompting law enforcement to launch an investigation and file a report under IPC Section 363 (kidnapping). Superintendent of Police (Surat Rural) Hitesh Joysar disclosed that multiple teams were deployed to locate her.
Tragically, on March 23, the girl's partially clothed body was found abandoned in the shrubbery near her home, with medical examinations confirming sexual assault before her death.
Joysar informed the press that an extensive effort involving over 15 police teams covering more than 600 residences culminated in the arrest of two suspects residing in the victim's neighbourhood. The accused, identified as Deepak Kori (23) from Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, and Anuj Paswan (23) from Palamu, Jharkhand, confessed to their involvement in the crime.
They stand accused under IPC sections pertaining to murder, rape, and destruction of evidence, as well as provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to the police, the perpetrators sexually assaulted the girl before killing her, driven by the fear of arrest.
Authorities assured that a comprehensive investigation would be conducted, and a chargesheet swiftly filed with the assistance of a special prosecutor to ensure the perpetrators face the most stringent legal consequences.
