Accused Siya Goyal (C), victim Ketan Agarwal (L) and co-accused Chetan Chaudhary (R) in the Pune businessman murder case linked to Lohagad Fort trek incident.

Pune businessman Ketan Agarwal's death during a trek to Lohagad Fort was not accidental but part of a pre-planned conspiracy involving his fiancée and her alleged lover, police have claimed as investigations deepen into the high-profile case.

Agarwal was allegedly pushed off a cliff during a trek near Lonavala on June 18, an incident initially treated as an accidental fall but later reclassified as suspected murder after inconsistencies emerged during questioning and forensic review.

Café meeting, site selection and alleged plan

According to police sources, accused Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary allegedly met at a café on the day of the incident to finalise their plan. During the meeting, they are said to have discussed the execution strategy and identified a secluded location on Lohagad Fort where Agarwal could be pushed without immediate detection.

Investigators believe the meeting was part of a premeditated sequence of events rather than a spontaneous decision, strengthening the case of conspiracy.

Earlier attempt on June 14

Police have also claimed that an earlier attempt was made on June 14, when Siya allegedly tried to push Agarwal off the fort during another visit. The attempt reportedly failed, after which she allegedly created a diversion by claiming a snake had been spotted, and later said he had fallen accidentally during panic.

This earlier incident is now being treated as a key part of the investigation into intent and preparation.

2,000 calls under scrutiny

A major focus of the probe is the alleged digital trail between the two accused. Police claim Siya and Chetan exchanged over 2,000 phone calls over several months, indicating sustained contact and coordination.

Investigators are analysing call records, messages and location data to establish the timeline of their relationship and whether it directly links to the alleged conspiracy.

Relationship angle and ongoing probe

Police say the accused first met at a Diwali party last year and gradually developed a close relationship. They suspect Siya was unwilling to proceed with her arranged marriage and allegedly sought to continue her relationship with Chetan instead.

Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary are currently in police custody till June 29 as investigators continue to examine digital evidence, witness statements and the sequence of events leading to Agarwal’s death.
