According to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), more than 2,300 male passengers were fined for breaking into train coaches designated for women during the fiscal year 2024–2025. A total of 2,320 challans were issued under the Delhi Metro Railway Operation and Maintenance Act, with each facing a fine of ₹250, DMRC officials added.

Only one offender was punished in December 2024, while the most cases -- 443 -- occurred in May, followed by 419 in April and 397 in September.

In cases where individuals are unable to pay the fine on the spot, CISF or flying squad personnel issue a warning and allow them to leave, he said.
A DMRC official said the drive is conducted in coordination with CISF personnel, who are deployed at various points across the metro network.

To address the problem, the company has also started a number of awareness campaigns. These include digital campaigns through DMRC's social media channels, regular announcements in trains and on platforms, and clear signage indicating the location of women-only coaches.

Additionally, the official stated that flying squads are tasked with keeping an eye on infractions and taking appropriate action. He said that such drives and sensitisation efforts will continue in the days ahead to ensure a safer and more comfortable travel experience for female passengers.

With 257 stations spread across 10 colour-coded lines, the Delhi Metro currently runs a network of almost 395 kilometres. One coach is designated for women, and trains normally operate in formations of six or eight coaches.
