Three more terrorists were killed on Sunday as "Operation Akhal," one of the largest counter-terror exercises this year, entered its third day. The deaths of the three terrorists, along with a soldier who was injured, brings the total number of terrorists killed in the operation to six, after three were eliminated on Saturday.
Throughout Saturday night and into Sunday, sounds of blasts and firing continued to be heard in the Akhal forest area of south Kashmir's Kulgam district. A combined team from the Indian Army, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Jammu and Kashmir Police is engaged in the ongoing conflict.
Following intelligence reports regarding the existence of terrorists in the Akhal forests, security forces launched the operation on Friday. When a group of terrorists hiding in the forest cover opened fire on the security personnel, the search and cordon operation turned into a gunfight. The operation was temporarily halted on Friday night due to the initial firefight, but it was resumed on Saturday and three terrorists were killed.

According to officials speaking to national media, the terrorists are believed to be members of The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
The TRF had previously claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. The operation is being conducted with the support of high-tech surveillance systems and elite paramilitary forces. The situation is being closely monitored by the Director General of Police (DGP) and the 15 Corps Commander.
