As many as 20 flights at the Delhi airport were diverted due to bad weather on Saturday morning, according to an official.
The official cause is said to be very low visibility on the tarmac due to smog concentration in the region.
The official said the flights were diverted to Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad and Amritsar. In a post on microblogging platform X at around 0810 hrs, the Delhi airport said low visibility procedures were in progress at the airport.
The National Capital Region has been facing difficulties due to low visibility and chronic breathing conditions caused by heavy concentrations of pollutants in the air.
The heavy smog concentration is attributed to thousands of instances of stubble burning in states neighbouring the capital, particularly Punjab and Haryana. Both states have been directed by the NGT to formulate a time-bound action plan against stubble burning for the upcoming year.
