At least three young students lost their lives, and several others sustained critical injuries when a truck loaded with potatoes overturned onto an auto-rickshaw carrying schoolchildren in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district on Wednesday.

The tragic incident took place on Wednesday morning in the Gola area of Ramgarh district, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

The auto-rickshaw was ferrying children to Goodwill Mission School when the accident occurred. Initial reports suggest that the overloaded truck lost balance while navigating a turn, toppling onto the smaller vehicle.

The children, aged between 6 and 8 years, were crushed under the weight of the truck, leading to the untimely demise of three students. Tragically, the auto driver also lost his life in the accident.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrifying, with local residents rushing to rescue those trapped under the debris. Emergency services were called in, and the injured were transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.

Authorities have since initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and whether negligence on the part of the truck driver or other factors contributed to the tragedy.

The incident has raised questions about school management policies and road safety measures. The state government had previously declared holidays for students from Nursery to Standard 8 until January 13 due to the cold wave gripping the region.

Despite this directive, classes were being held at Goodwill Mission School, leading to criticism and calls for accountability.
