36 pilgrims injured in a bus crash on Amarnath Yatra route

At least 36 Amarnath pilgrims suffered injuries after five buses collided with each other, early this morning. The accident took place in the Ramban district. 


These buses were ferrying Yatris to the Pahalgam base camp in south Kashmir after departing from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu. The accident occurred due to the failure of brakes in one of the buses, near Chanderkoot, along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, at around 8 AM, said the officials. 


Ramban Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan told reporters that, "The last vehicle of the Pahalgam convoy lost control and hit stranded vehicles at the Chanderkot Langer site, damaging four vehicles and causing minor injuries to 36 Yatris."

The government officials present at the spot offered immediate help to the injured Yatris and took them to the Ramban district hospital. The police department officials also visited the hospital to monitor the treatment of the injured persons and directed the Chief Medical Officer to ensure proper care. 


DC Ramban later said, "The Yatris were later shifted to other vehicles for their onward journey."  The medical superintendent of Ramban District Hospital said that the injured were discharged quickly after they were given first aid.
