A total of 5,069 wild animals, including 55 tigers, were spotted during the latest waterhole animal survey at Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district, officials said.
The survey, dubbed "Nisarganubhav-2024," was conducted on May 23 and 24 to coincide with Buddha Purnima, a full moon night, according to a TATR release on Saturday.
In addition to forest department staff, 160 nature enthusiasts participated in the survey.
Among the animals recorded in the core and buffer zones were 55 tigers, 17 leopards, 86 wild dogs, 65 sloth bears, 1,458 spotted deer, 488 sambars, and 559 Indian gaurs.
At least 26 tigers and eight leopards were sighted in the buffer areas, while 29 tigers and nine leopards were spotted in the core areas, the release said.
