Security forces recovered eight Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), three weapons, a large quantity of cartridges, magazines and other materials under the jurisdiction of Netarhat police station in Latehar district of Jharkhand on Wednesday.
According to available information, personnel from the 11th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the state police were on a search operation in the jungles of Latehar when they discovered eight tiffin bombs, each weighing approximately five kilograms, placed along a footpath.
The search team also recovered one Self-Loading Rifle (SLR), two carbines, 259 live cartridges, eight magazines, four magazine pouches and other related materials.
Latehar Superintendent of Police (SP) Kumar Gaurav stated that the operation was launched following the killing of Maoist commander Manish Yadav and the arrest of Kundan Kherwar in Neeche Dauna village two days ago. He added that the security forces were combing the entire area as part of an intensified operation.
He further informed that the arms and ammunition were recovered from the Tutapani forest, within the Netarhat police station area, where the Maoists had hidden them.
The IEDs were allegedly planted to target police and security personnel. All the recovered explosives were safely defused by controlled detonation in the forest.
Notably, a fierce encounter had taken place just days earlier between security forces and a squad led by top Maoist commander Kundan Kherwar in the same region. During the confrontation, Manish Yadav was killed and Kherwar was arrested.
Since the encounter, the 11th Battalion of the CRPF has been conducting continuous search operations in the forest, leading to this significant recovery.
