Prime Minister Narendra Modi will transfer the 23rd instalment of financial assistance under the PM-KISAN scheme on June 20, disbursing Rs 18,880 crore directly to more than 9.44 crore farmers across the country.

The transfer will take place during Modi’s visit to Hooghly district in West Bengal and will be made through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism.

Announcing the programme, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the latest instalment would strengthen the income security of small and marginal farmers. In West Bengal alone, over 45.35 lakh farmers are expected to receive nearly Rs 907 crore under the scheme.

With the latest payout, the cumulative disbursement under PM-KISAN in West Bengal will exceed Rs 15,055 crore, while total transfers under the scheme since its launch in 2019 will cross Rs 4.46 lakh crore nationwide.

During the visit, the Prime Minister will also launch the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and the Restructured Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) in West Bengal. The two programmes have a combined outlay of around Rs 12,200 crore.

The government aims to extend crop insurance coverage to about 1.10 crore farmers across 30 lakh hectares during 2026-27. Crops valued at approximately Rs 28,140 crore are expected to be covered under the initiative.

As part of the Digital Agriculture Mission, Modi will launch an Agri-Tech platform designed to provide an integrated interface for fertiliser distribution, Kisan Credit Card services, Direct Benefit Transfers and procurement under the Minimum Support Price regime.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to launch the National Natural Farming Mission in the state. Under the programme, 346 natural farming clusters covering 17,300 hectares will be established across West Bengal during 2026-27. The initiative is expected to benefit around 43,250 farmers through training, bio-based agricultural inputs and market linkages supported by bio-resource centres and Krishi Sakhis.

In addition, Modi will launch the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana in the districts of Purulia, Darjeeling, Alipurduar and Jhargram. The scheme seeks to improve agricultural productivity, promote crop diversification and strengthen post-harvest infrastructure, including storage and processing facilities.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate 49 road projects worth more than Rs 213 crore under PMGSY-III. Spanning over 315 kilometres, the projects are aimed at improving rural connectivity, helping farmers access markets and easing access to education and healthcare services in remote areas.
