Delhi Police has apprehended 92 Bangladeshi nationals for illegally staying in the country in two different operations during a special drive in southwest Delhi, an official said on Tuesday.

The Delhi Police detained 92 Bangladeshi nationals in outer Delhi, taking the tally to 242 this year, an official said on Tuesday. During a special operation near the Mangolpuri railway line on June 9, 92 Bangladeshi nationals—31 men, 22 women, 24 minor boys, and 15 minor girls—were taken into custody.

According to the police, the operation was carried out in response to particular intelligence inputs regarding groups of illegal immigrants who were getting ready to flee the region. When the police arrived at the Mangolpuri Railway Line on June 9, they saw three or four different groups waiting to board trains with their bags. However, the migrants tried to flee when they saw the police, but they were immediately stopped by officials, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Sachin Sharma.

According to Sharma, deportation procedures were started in cooperation with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) after none of them were able to show legitimate travel or identification documents and expired passports and visas were found during the verification process. The majority of the individuals are believed to have come to India in pursuit of improved employment prospects and were employed as labourers or in the private sector, the officer continued.

The Mundka police from the vicinity of Tikri Border have arrested 86 of the 242 Bangladeshi nationals captured so far this year, followed by the Ranhola police from Nala Road with five and the Foreigner Cell from Peeragarhi Camp, Mangolpuri, Nihal Vihar, and Sultanpuri with 151, according to the DCP.

In addition, five Bangladeshi nationals—three of them were minors—were arrested in the Anand Vihar neighbourhood of east Delhi on Tuesday. "Twenty-five illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been detected and deported in east Delhi since the drive began on November 19, 2024," DCP (East) Abhishek Dhania stated.
