Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray met Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi on Thursday, reaffirming the party’s commitment to the INDIA Bloc.
Thackeray emphasised that while governments may change, the alliance’s relationships will remain strong. He was accompanied by Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs Arvind Sawant and Priyanka Chaturvedi, along with AAP MP Sanjay Singh.
Following the meeting, Thackeray addressed the media, urging opposition parties to unite against the growing concerns of voter name deletions and what he described as the diminishing integrity of free and fair elections.
He stressed the need for a collective strategy to tackle these issues, arguing that electoral processes in India were being compromised.
“The Shiv Sena (UBT) has come here to show solidarity. Governments come and go, but our relationship will remain. The people of Delhi have seen the work Kejriwal has done in the last decade. However, elections in our democracy are no longer free and fair. The Election Commission played a significant role in this election. Whether it is the INDIA Bloc or other opposition parties, we must decide on our next course of action. It is crucial to discuss voter name deletions,” he said.
AAP MP Sanjay Singh echoed Thackeray’s concerns, stating that the Shiv Sena delegation had expressed gratitude for meeting Kejriwal and reaffirmed their commitment to the alliance. He confirmed that electoral irregularities were a key point of discussion.
Earlier in the day, Thackeray revealed that he had met Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, the previous night.
He said the discussions with Kejriwal and Gandhi were part of broader efforts to strengthen the INDIA Bloc and safeguard democratic principles.
“The future of our country is uncertain. We don’t know where our votes are going due to widespread voter fraud and EVM manipulation. Are elections in India still free and fair? We assume we are living in a democracy, but that is no longer the case. What happened to us, Kejriwal ji, and Congress could also happen to Nitish ji, RJD, and Chandrababu Naidu in the future,” he said.
He accused the BJP of systematically dismantling regional parties, saying, “The BJP’s goal is to weaken and eliminate every regional party, just as they are trying to do with democracy itself.”
On the INDIA Bloc’s strategy, Thackeray said senior leaders within the alliance were working on a roadmap for the future. He reiterated that the bloc had a collective leadership and was not driven by individual ambitions.
“There is no single leader in the INDIA Bloc. This is not a battle of egos or personal gains. It is a fight for the future of the country,” he asserted.
