Shiv Sena UBT leader Aaditya Thackeray raised serious concerns regarding the ongoing Badlapur sexual assault case involving two minor girls. Taking to the social media platform X, Thackeray posed multiple questions targeting the BJP-Mindhe government, accusing them of shielding those involved in the case.
In his post, Thackeray questioned the whereabouts of the trustees of the Badlapur school, asking why they were being protected by the BJP-Mindhe regime. He expressed frustration over the lack of action against those responsible, suggesting political connections might be influencing the investigation.
Thackeray further questioned the involvement of Waman Mhatre, a local figure reportedly linked to the Mindhe government, who allegedly made insensitive remarks towards a journalist questioning the incident.
Thackeray criticised the handling of citizens who protested the lack of a timely investigation, stating they were treated unfairly by the police, as if they were criminals, for simply demanding justice.
He also speculated that the trustees of the school had ties with the BJP, adding to the suspicion that they were being shielded from accountability. Thackeray demanded clear answers from the regime about their involvement and why the trustees have not been brought to justice.
This is not the first time the BJP-Mindhe government has come under fire for its handling of the Badlapur case. The incident has drawn widespread outrage, with the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) strongly criticising the current administration.
On Monday, MVA leaders expressed their disappointment with the delay in filing the FIR and the subsequent death of the prime accused while in custody, terming it a failure of law and order in Maharashtra.
NCP MP Supriya Sule voiced her anger over the handling of the case, calling it a significant failure of the justice system. She highlighted how the delay in filing the complaint and the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the accused pointed to a deeper issue with law enforcement in the state.
Sule’s comments reflected the growing frustration among opposition leaders who have been demanding justice for the victims and accountability from the government.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also joined the criticism, labelling the situation as a display of the Mahayuti government’s incompetence. She pointed out that while the prime accused was killed in custody, other co-accused remain at large, further casting doubt on the government’s commitment to delivering justice. Chaturvedi described the unfolding events as a narrative created by the state to deflect from its failures in handling the case.
On the other hand, the BJP has been quick to defend its position, countering the accusations from the INDIA bloc, which includes Congress and other opposition parties.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla took to X to launch a sharp rebuttal, accusing the alliance of being historically anti-women and supportive of alleged criminals.
Poonawalla claimed that the opposition’s criticism of law enforcement was part of a larger pattern of undermining the country’s institutions and defending those with dubious backgrounds.
He further accused the Congress of siding with anti-national elements, linking their stance in the Badlapur case to their alleged defence of Pakistan’s involvement in the 26/11 attacks. Poonawalla’s remarks highlighted the growing political tensions surrounding the case, as both sides attempted to frame the narrative to their advantage.
The Badlapur sexual assault case has become a flashpoint for political and social discourse in Maharashtra. With both the government and opposition locked in a battle of accusations, the victims’ families and the public continue to demand justice and answers.
The situation remains tense, as citizens await clarity on the ongoing investigations and the role of political connections in influencing the outcome of the case.
