Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will launch a probe into the Air India plane crash at the Ahmedabad airport on Thursday. US Aviation department team has also offered to assist India in rescue as also in investigation to find cause of mishap.
United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), in a statement, said that it is in contact with US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) regarfing the Air India plane crash. The National Transportation Safety Board said on Thursday it will lead a team of U.S. investigators traveling to India to help in the investigation of the crash of an Air India Boeing 787 bound for London with 242 people aboard.
Air India's Dreamliner Boeing 787 aircraft, involved in the crash, had 242 people on board, including 12 crew members.AAIB Director General and Director of Investigation at the agency, among others, will be leaving for Ahmedabad, according to officials .Under the civil aviation ministry, AAIB is responsible for the classification of safety occurrences, involving aircraft operating in the Indian airspace into accidents and serious incidents.
It carries out detailed investigations into accidents and also suggests measures to improve safety."We are aware of initial reports and are working to gather more information," Boeing said in a statement.Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu expressed shock at the plane crash and said he was personally monitoring the situation.
"We are on highest alert. I am personally monitoring the situation and have directed all aviation and emergency response agencies to take swift and coordinated action."Rescue teams have been mobilised and all efforts are being made to ensure medical aid and relief support are being rushed to the site," he said in a post on X in the afternoon.The minister, who was in Vijayawada, rushed to Ahmedabad to oversee the situation on the ground.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacted to the plane crash, saying the accident is "heartbreaking beyond words".
"The tragedy in Ahmedabad has stunned and saddened us. It is heartbreaking beyond words. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it. Have been in touch with Ministers and authorities who are working to assist those affected," he wrote on X.
