Delhi's Lieutenant Governor, VK Saxena, recently made statements regarding the alleged assault case involving Swati Maliwal, chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW). Responding to Saxena's remarks, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) asserted that his comments indicated Maliwal's alignment with the BJP.

In a released statement, AAP conveyed, “LG’s statement proves that Swati Maliwal is working for the BJP. The BJP is hatching a new conspiracy every day during elections–sometimes liquor scam, sometimes Swati Maliwal, sometimes false allegations of foreign funding. The BJP will use new tactics every day during the elections. The BJP is losing badly. Modi Ji’s sinking ship is taking support of Swati Maliwal.”

LG Saxena stated that Maliwal had reached out to him, expressing concerns about coercion by AAP members. He highlighted her distress, emphasising the alleged intimidation and mistreatment she faced from her own colleagues. Saxena condemned any violence directed towards Maliwal, despite previous criticisms from her towards his office.

Expressing disappointment in Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's response, Saxena noted his perceived evasion and reluctance to address the matter transparently. Saxena stressed that such incidents tarnish the country's image, particularly in the diplomatic community present in Delhi.

Maliwal accused Bibhav Kumar, Kejriwal's former personal secretary, of assaulting her at the Chief Minister's residence. In turn, Kumar filed a counter-complaint, alleging unauthorised entry by Maliwal and verbal abuse.

Amidst the allegations, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to probe the matter. Headed by North Delhi’s Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anjitha Chepyala, the SIT comprises three Inspector-rank officers, including those from the Civil Lines Police Station where the case was registered.

The unfolding developments in this case underscore the complexities surrounding women's safety and political dynamics in the national capital. As the investigation progresses, attention remains focused on the integrity of the legal process and the accountability of all involved parties.
