The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has released its fifth list of the candidates for the Delhi assembly elections in 2025. Some of the well known faces who have been declared are Mahender Chaudhary from Mehrauli.
This came after the party released its fourth list on 15 th Dec with 38 candidates, some of which are influential personalities as the AAP’s national convenor and former chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal who will be vying for the New Delhi seat.
Atishi will be the Chief Minister from Kalkaji, Saurabh Bharadwaj of Greater Kailash & Gopal Rai of Babarpur.
Other aspiring candidates are Satyender Kumar Jain from Shakur Basti, Durgesh Pathak from Rajinder Nagar, Raghuvinder Shokeen from Nangloi Jat and Som Dutt from Sadar Bazar. Imran Hussain has been put up from Ballimaran assembly, while Jarnail Singh has been named for Tilak Nagar.
This list also includes two new entrants while the rest of thirty six are the present sitting MLAs, contesting for their re-election. For Kasturba Nagar AAP has selected Ramesh Pehalwan and for Uttam Nagar, Pooja Naresh Balyan, who is wife of Naresh Balyan.
Notably, the BJP leader, Ramesh Pehalwan and his wife Kusumlata Ramesh switched over to AAP on December 15 in a major political realignment and formally joined AAP in the company of Arvind Kejriwal.
Earlier, AAP declared a third list of candidates on December 13 of which Tarun Yadav was given ticket for Najafgarh Assembly . The next list declared on December 9 was altogether a fresh set up where 17 out of the sitting MLAs were changed.
Still there are few known faces such as Manish Sisodia, Rakhi Birla, Deepu Chaudhary in the AAP political list but they have still kept their candidacies alive.
From previous election Virender Singh is memorable as he was a very close friend of Deepu Chaudhary.He contested in the preceding election and lost narrowly.
In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, AAP secured a landslide victory by winning 62 out of 70 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to win only eight.
This time, AAP appears to be strategically positioning itself to retain its dominance in Delhi by announcing candidates in a phased manner, ensuring a mix of experienced leaders and new entrants.
