AAP announces Lok Sabha candidates for Delhi and Haryana

Delhi CM and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal with cabinet ministers and party legislators leaves after visiting Rajghat to mark one year of party leader Manish Sisodia's arrest, in Delhi on Monday.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) revealed its candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Delhi and Haryana on Tuesday, following the finalization of a seat-sharing agreement with the Congress just two days prior.

Incumbent MLA from Kondli, Kuldeep Kumar has been nominated as the AAP's candidate for the East Delhi constituency, currently held by BJP's Gautam Gambhir.

Somnath Bharti, MLA from Malviya Nagar and the vice-chairman of the Delhi Jal Board, will contest from New Delhi, a seat currently represented by BJP's Meenakshi Lekhi.

Meanwhile, Mahabal Mishra, a former Congress MP from West Delhi, will vie for the same constituency under the AAP banner.

Known for his political acumen and influence among Purvanchali voters, Mishra's entry into the fray adds an interesting dynamic to the electoral landscape.

He previously contested unsuccessfully in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections against BJP's Parvesh Verma.

Sahi Ram Pahalwan, MLA from Tughlakabad, has been chosen as the AAP's candidate for the South Delhi seat, currently held by BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri.

In Haryana, the AAP has nominated former Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Gupta as its candidate for the Kurukshetra constituency.

This announcement follows a similar seat-sharing arrangement between the AAP and Congress, with Congress contesting the North East Delhi, North West, and Chandni Chowk seats, all currently held by BJP representatives.

The AAP has also forged alliances with other parties, such as the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, with the aim of consolidating opposition forces against the ruling BJP.

The forthcoming Lok Sabha elections hold significant importance for both the AAP and Congress, particularly in Delhi where the BJP secured a clean sweep of all seven seats in the 2019 elections.

In addition to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Congress has forged a seat-sharing agreement with the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh, which contributes 80 members to the Lok Sabha.

Under this arrangement, the Congress will vie for 17 seats, while the SP and its allied parties will compete for the remaining 63 constituencies.
