AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan has been granted anticipatory bail in a case where he is accused of helping a suspect evade arrest and obstructing a police investigation.
The Rouse Avenue court in Delhi made this decision on Tuesday in relation to an FIR filed against him. Earlier, the court had provided him with interim protection from arrest in the same case.
The court ruled that if Khan is arrested, he will be released on bail upon furnishing a personal bond of ₹25,000, along with one surety of the same amount.
The court also directed him to fully cooperate with the investigation and not to tamper with any evidence. Additionally, he has been barred from leaving the country without prior permission and from threatening any witnesses in the case.
The police have accused Khan of shielding Shavez Khan, who has been declared a proclaimed offender by the court. The alleged incident took place on February 10, when Khan reportedly led a mob while aiding Shavez Khan’s escape.
In response to the allegations, Amanatullah Khan wrote a letter to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, claiming that the police were falsely implicating him in the case.
He stated that Shavez Khan had already been granted bail after being caught during a raid, yet the police had still declared him a fugitive.
Khan insisted that some officers within the Delhi Police were deliberately framing him to cover up their own mistakes. He maintained that the accusations against him were baseless and politically motivated. The case has drawn attention, as it involves both legal and political implications for the AAP leader.
