The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has begun restructuring its core and frontal wings following the Delhi Assembly election results, senior leader Gopal Rai announced on Saturday.

Gopal Rai confirms AAP restructuring after poll loss.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has begun restructuring its core and frontal wings following the Delhi Assembly election results, senior leader Gopal Rai announced on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters, Rai emphasised the party’s commitment to playing the role of a strong opposition and confirmed that the oath-taking ceremony for all AAP MLAs is scheduled for 24 February.

The party will announce its Leader of Opposition after the swearing-in process is complete.

Rai revealed that AAP has conducted meetings with state office bearers from its key wings, including the Purvanchal wing, auto wing, and women’s wing.

The discussions focused on restructuring the party’s main and auxiliary organisations to strengthen operations and ensure greater engagement with the public.

He stated that the legislative wing would raise its voice inside the Assembly while party wings across different sections of society would hold the government accountable for its manifesto promises.

Rai reiterated AAP’s commitment to playing a strong, positive opposition role in Delhi’s political landscape.

The AAP leader took the opportunity to criticise the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of failing to fulfil its election promises.

He specifically questioned the BJP’s commitment to providing Rs 2,500 financial assistance to women in Delhi, a scheme that, he claimed, was supposed to be announced during the first cabinet meeting.

Rai accused the ruling party of avoiding its responsibilities and urged the government to clarify its position.

AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar also attacked the BJP over the financial assistance scheme, alleging that the party was prioritising its political agenda instead of focusing on delivering its promises.

She pointed out that the BJP-led government plans to table the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports during the first session of the Legislative Assembly on 25 February, but has not yet announced the financial scheme for women.

Kakkar accused the BJP of employing similar tactics in Haryana and Maharashtra, where she claimed the party had failed to implement its pre-election commitments.

Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Atishi also criticised the BJP and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for not approving the Rs 2,500 financial assistance scheme in the first cabinet meeting. She accused the BJP of breaking its election promises and misleading the people of Delhi.

According to Atishi, the BJP had no intention of delivering on its commitments and had already decided to backtrack on key pre-poll pledges.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who chaired her first cabinet meeting after taking the oath of office, announced that her government would implement the Ayushman Bharat health scheme with a Rs 5 lakh top-up.

She also confirmed that 14 pending CAG reports, which were not tabled during the previous AAP-led administration, would be presented in the first sitting of the Delhi Assembly.

During a press conference, Gupta said her government would sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Centre to facilitate the implementation of Ayushman Bharat.

This scheme, a flagship programme of the central government, aims to provide affordable and quality healthcare to citizens. The BJP had targeted the AAP government during the election campaign for not implementing the scheme earlier.

Gupta stated that her government was committed to fulfilling its promises and ensuring that the people of Delhi benefit from better healthcare services.

The BJP, in its manifesto for the Delhi Assembly elections, had pledged to implement Ayushman Bharat and address healthcare concerns in the national capital.

Gupta’s government has now moved forward with these plans, but opposition leaders continue to question the delay in announcing the financial assistance scheme for women.
