Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday announced that Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh and Delhi minister Saurabh Bhardwaj would accompany media personnel on a tour of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's official residence.
The BJP has labelled the residence as a "Sheesh Mahal" over allegations of excessive renovation and luxurious fittings.
At a press conference, Singh and Bhardwaj asserted that they would also lead reporters on a visit to the Prime Minister’s official residence, which AAP has called "Raj Mahal" and alleged was built at a cost of 2,700 crore.
Bhardwaj stated, “As promised, we will visit the chief minister's official residence at 6, Flagstaff Road, at 11 am and try to find the golden commode, swimming pool, and mini bar that the BJP claims are present there.”
He added, “Both these properties are government residences, built with taxpayers' money during the Covid pandemic. If there are allegations of misappropriation of funds, both should be investigated.”
The 6, Flagstaff Road bungalow has come under scrutiny due to claims of costly fittings and renovation expenses, which the BJP has prominently highlighted during the Delhi assembly election campaign.
Virendra Sachdeva, the Delhi BJP chief, has alleged the presence of valuable items such as a "golden commode" missing after Kejriwal vacated the residence.
AAP has been countering these allegations, stating that both the CM and Prime Minister’s residences were funded by public money, and any misuse should be investigated equally.
