Adani Group made a significant announcement on Monday, inaugurating two colossal facilities for ammunition and missile production, positioning them as the largest in South Asia. With an investment exceeding Rs 3,000 crore and sprawling across 500 acres, Adani Defence & Aerospace aims to fortify its foothold in defence manufacturing.

These state-of-the-art facilities, a pioneering venture in the private sector in India, are poised to revolutionize the nation's defence capabilities by manufacturing a comprehensive range of ammunition. The Adani Group, in a statement, expressed confidence that these cutting-edge establishments would bolster India's self-reliance and technological prowess in the defence sector.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of notable dignitaries, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Chief of Army Staff Gen Manoj Pande, and GOC-in-C of Central Command Lt Gen N. S. Raja Subramani. Coinciding with the fifth anniversary of the Balakot airstrike 'Operation Bandar', the unveiling of these facilities symbolizes India's strategic assertiveness against external threats.

Situated in Kanpur and spread over 500 acres, the facility is poised to emerge as one of the largest integrated ammunition manufacturing complexes. It is geared towards producing high-quality small, medium, and large-calibre ammunition catering to the armed forces, paramilitary forces, and police. Already operational, the facility has commenced production of small calibre ammunition, with an initial output of 150 million rounds, accounting for a significant portion of India's annual requirement.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Adityanath expressed pride in the prospect of domestically manufactured ammunition and missiles contributing to the nation's security. Similarly, Chief of Army Staff Gen Manoj Pande underscored the importance of self-reliance in missiles and ammunition, highlighting recent geopolitical events that emphasized the need for a reliable domestic supply chain.

Adani Defence & Aerospace, the flagship defence entity of the Adani Group, is committed to advancing India's defence capabilities. Apart from ammunition and missile manufacturing, the company is focused on developing cutting-edge technologies in the unmanned segment, counter drones, surveillance, and cyber defence.

CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace, Ashish Rajvanshi, emphasized the strategic significance of these complexes, stating that their establishment represents a substantial leap towards self-reliance. Furthermore, he highlighted the broader economic impact, with over 4,000 jobs expected to be created and a significant multiplier effect on MSMEs and the local ecosystem.

The operationalization of the ammunition complex within two years of its announcement underscores the Adani Group's commitment to driving innovation and contributing to India's journey towards self-reliance in the defence sector.
