ADR: 28 Ministers have criminal cases, 19 serious

The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has revealed that twenty-eight ministers in the third Narendra Modi government have criminal cases against them.

 

Among these, nineteen face serious charges such as attempted murder, crimes against women, and hate speech.

 

The ADR report highlights that two ministers, Shantanu Thakur, Minister of State for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, and Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for Education and Development of the North Eastern Region, have declared cases related to attempt to murder under Indian Penal Code section 307.

 

Additionally, five ministers have cases related to crimes against women.

 

These include Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Minister of State for Home, Shantanu Thakur, Sukanta Majumdar, Suresh Gopi, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Tourism, and Jual Oram, Minister of Tribal Affairs.

 

The report also identifies eight ministers with cases related to hate speech, reflecting a concerning trend of serious allegations within the new council.

 

In total, 28 out of the 71 ministers (39 per cent) have declared criminal cases against them. The new Council of Ministers, which took the oath on June 9, has 72 members, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
