Bengaluru is set to host the 15th edition of Aero India, the country's premier aerospace and defense exhibition, in February 2025. The biennial event, organized by the Ministry of Defence, will take place at Yelahanka Air Force Station, a venue that has hosted the show since its inception in 1996.
Aero India has grown into one of the largest air shows in the world, attracting leading defense manufacturers, aviation experts, government delegations, and industry leaders from across the globe. The 2025 edition is expected to showcase cutting-edge advancements in aerospace technology, defense equipment, and military aviation.
Global Participation and Strategic Significance
The event is likely to witness participation from leading defense firms, including major global players such as Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Airbus, Dassault Aviation, and HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited).
The exhibition will serve as a platform for defense cooperation, technology transfers, and strategic partnerships between Indian and international firms.
With India's focus on self-reliance in defense manufacturing, the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative is expected to be a central theme of the exhibition.
The Indian government is keen on promoting indigenous defense production, and Aero India 2025 is expected to highlight India's growing capabilities in military aviation, drone technology, and next-generation fighter jets.
Expected Highlights
The air show will feature live aerial displays from leading fighter jets, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
In past editions, aircraft such as the Rafale, Tejas, Sukhoi Su-30MKI, and F-16 have performed breathtaking aerial maneuvers, showcasing their combat capabilities. The Indian Air Force (IAF) and other global air forces are expected to participate in demonstrations and joint exercises.
In addition to aerial displays, the exhibition will have business conferences, technology seminars, and B2B meetings, where industry leaders, defense ministers, and military officials will discuss the future of aerospace technology, defense exports, and emerging security challenges.
Boost to Indian Defense Industry
Aero India plays a crucial role in strengthening India's position as a defense manufacturing hub. The event has facilitated major defense deals in the past, and the 2025 edition could see new agreements in fighter jet procurement, drone technology, and advanced missile systems.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian defense startups are expected to showcase new innovations in areas such as artificial intelligence, space technology, and cyber warfare.
The exhibition will also provide opportunities for Indian MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) to collaborate with global defense firms.
Security and Infrastructure Preparations
The Karnataka government and the Indian Air Force are working on security and logistical arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the event. Given the large-scale participation from international delegations, security measures at Yelahanka Air Base will be significantly heightened.
