Preparations are underway for the visit of Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, to the Darul Uloom Deoband in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday. He is scheduled to address both students and the general public.
The Afghan minister is expected to arrive at Darul Uloom Deoband at around 10:30 am and will speak at a public function at 3 pm, according to Ashraf Usmani, media in charge of the seminary.
“Afghanistan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi is visiting today. We are making arrangements accordingly. He is expected to arrive around 10:30 am or 11 am. First, he will take diksha, receive some ‘taleem’ (education), and take hadith. After that, we will show him the campus, and he will be provided with food and drinks,” Usmani told the media.

“Around 3 pm, a public programme will be held where he will address students and the public,” he added.
“He is a guest of the country. We have to take care of him. Nothing special is being arranged; many guests visit us regularly. For him, just this one programme has been organised. Deoband represents an academic ideology. Whoever is involved in education will be introduced to Deoband and will be encouraged to explore the place,” Usmani noted.
Darul Uloom Deoband, an Islamic seminary, has produced scholars from India and across the world. The seminary was established in the late 1800s by Sayyid Muhammad Abid, Fazlur Rahman Usmani, Mahtab Ali Deobandi, and others. The foundation of the current campus was laid by Muhamad Qasim Nanautawi. The school primarily teaches manqulat.
The Taliban minister is on a week-long visit to India, from October 9 to October 16. This marks the first high-level delegation from Kabul to India since the Taliban assumed control of Afghanistan in August 2021.
