Authorities in Ahmedabad took strict action on Saturday by demolishing illegally built houses belonging to six out of 14 people arrested for their alleged involvement in mob violence.
The police stated that these individuals had attacked commuters and engaged in rioting, leading to injuries and property damage.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation carried out the demolition in Amraiwadi and Khokhra areas, with heavy police deployment to prevent disruptions.
Around 700-800 personnel were stationed at the sites, and senior officers monitored the situation closely.
Family members of the accused attempted to resist the demolition, but police quickly brought them under control.
The violence occurred on Thursday night when a group of 20 men, armed with sticks, swords, and knives, attacked people and vandalised vehicles in the Vastral locality.
A complaint was lodged by Alap Soni, who recounted how his family outing to celebrate his parents' wedding anniversary turned into a nightmare.
According to the FIR, he was stabbed on the back of his neck and left hand, while his cousin also suffered similar injuries. The accused also damaged their vehicle before fleeing.
The arrested individuals have been booked under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, including charges related to attempt to murder, rioting, and unlawful assembly.
Videos also surfaced showing police allegedly flogging some of the accused in public.
However, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Baldev Desai claimed no knowledge of these incidents.
In response to the violence, Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) Vikas Sahay held a video conference with senior officials.
He instructed police commissioners and superintendents to compile a list of anti-social elements in each police station jurisdiction within 100 hours and take stringent action against them.
