The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has teamed up with EduSkills Foundation, Ansys, Midas IT, and the Wadhwani Foundation to launch an ambitious program offering 200,000 virtual internships for engineering students. This initiative is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry experience, aiming to boost students' employability and job readiness.

AICTE Chairman, Professor T.G. Sitharam, expressed strong support for the initiative, highlighting its significance for students and the broader industry. He stated, “Internships and employability are intrinsically linked. With India producing a large number of engineers across various branches, AICTE is committed to preparing young minds for the future. This initiative brings us closer to our goal of facilitating one crore internships by 2025. It will also ensure that students secure employment in their respective fields while providing industry with a ready-to-work talent pool tailored to their needs.”

Professor Sitharam further elaborated on the broader impact of this initiative. “We are not only empowering students to acquire essential skills but also enabling them to tap into a wide range of national and global employment opportunities. This collaboration fosters meaningful engagement with the job market, creating a dynamic ecosystem that nurtures talent and drives economic growth,” he added.

Dr. Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of the National Educational Technology Forum (NETF), emphasised the importance of this program in bridging the gap between academic and practical knowledge.

“This is a significant stride in closing the gap between academic learning and the real world, ensuring that Indian youth gain practical experience crucial for their professional growth. Leveraging our collective expertise and expansive reach, our goal is to enhance employability for millions of students nationwide, cultivating a workforce equipped to tackle the evolving industry demands of today,” Dr. Sahasrabudhe said.

Dr. Buddha Chandrasekhar, Chief Coordinating Officer of AICTE, highlighted the alignment of this initiative with AICTE's mission to prepare students for their careers.

“The Council has taken many measures to empower students with valuable internships and skilling opportunities. This initiative aligns perfectly with our mission to bridge the industry-academia gap and get the students of India career-ready by providing practical learning experiences. The AICTE internship portal already hosts a large number of internship opportunities for students. This initiative will help our students connect with various industries and gain real-time experience,” Dr. Chandrasekhar stated.

Under this new partnership, Ansys will offer 50,000 virtual internships focused on Electromagnetic Analysis, Fluid Dynamics, and Structural Analysis. Midas IT will provide 50,000 internships in Bridge Analysis & Design and Geotechnical Analysis Simulation. The Wadhwani Foundation will contribute 100,000 internships aimed at developing employability skills to ensure students are job-ready.
