The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has announced a nationwide protest against the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill. The decision follows a massive demonstration in Delhi on 17 March.

In a statement, AIMPLB Office Secretary Mohd Vaquar Uddin Latifi confirmed the plan. He said the board will oppose the bill through constitutional, legal, and democratic means.

AIMPLB spokesperson SQR Ilyas, who is also the Convener of the Action Committee Against the Waqf Bill, expressed gratitude. He thanked Muslim organisations, civil society groups, and leaders from Dalit, Adivasi, OBC, and other minority communities for their support.

"Without the grace of Allah and the unity of these groups, the success of the Delhi protest would not have been possible," he said. He also extended his thanks to opposition parties and MPs. Many attended the demonstration and firmly rejected the bill.

The board's 31-member Action Committee has outlined a series of protests. The first phase includes large sit-ins outside state assemblies. Demonstrations will take place in Patna on 26 March and in Vijayawada on 29 March.

Senior AIMPLB leaders and representatives from religious and social organisations will join the protests. Leaders from civil society and key figures from Dalit, Adivasi, and OBC communities have also confirmed their participation.

Despite political parties issuing whips to ensure MPs attend the ongoing Parliament session, AIMPLB has invited opposition members of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to the sit-ins.

In Bihar, invitations have gone to JD(U), RJD, Congress, and the Lok Janshakti Party. The Chief Minister of Bihar has also been invited. In Andhra Pradesh, AIMPLB has reached out to leaders from the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP), YSR Congress, Congress, and left-wing parties.

Ilyas made the board's stance clear. "The purpose of these protests is to send a strong message to the BJP’s allies. Either withdraw support for the bill or risk losing our support."

AIMPLB has drafted a detailed nationwide protest plan. Rallies are scheduled in major cities, including Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Malerkotla in Punjab, and Ranchi. The campaign will feature sit-ins, human chains, and online activism, including hashtag drives on X (formerly Twitter).

In addition to public rallies, AIMPLB will hold conferences, seminars, and symposiums at the district level. The board also plans to submit memorandums to the President of India through district magistrates.
