A Mumbai-bound Air India Express flight carrying 160 passengers aborted takeoff from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport late Wednesday evening after the pilot detected a technical snag. According to a source from news agencies, the glitch involved a malfunction in the cockpit screens that display the aircraft’s speed parameters, prompting the pilot to halt the takeoff as a precaution.
Responding to the incident, an Air India Express spokesperson stated that the crew of the Delhi-origin flight elected to reject takeoff, prioritising passenger safety following the minor technical issue. The airline confirmed that all 160 passengers were safely deboarded and later accommodated on an alternative aircraft bound for Mumbai. "We regret the inconvenience while reiterating that safety remains paramount in all our operations," the airline spokesperson said in an official statement.
This was the second technical issue faced by the airline on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, Air India Express flight IX 375 from Calicut (Kozhikode) to Doha was forced to return mid-air as a safety precaution. The flight, which had 188 people on board including passengers, crew, and pilots, took off around 9:07 am but returned to Calicut International Airport and landed safely at 11:12 am.

Officials clarified that the return was not due to an emergency but was a precautionary measure prompted by a malfunction in the cabin air conditioning system. An airline spokesperson said, “One of our flights returned to Kerala’s Kozhikode after take-off due to a technical issue. We arranged an alternative aircraft on priority, provided the guests with refreshments during the delay, and the flight has since departed.”
Both incidents highlight Air India Express’s continued emphasis on operational safety and passenger well-being, even as they work to resolve technical snags promptly and with minimal disruption.
