An Air India flight travelling from Mumbai to New York on Monday, was diverted to Delhi due to a bomb threat, according to Delhi Police.
"The aircraft, now stationed at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport is undergoing thorough safety checks. All standard safety protocols are being followed to ensure the security of the passengers and crew on board," Delhi Police said.
Authorities are investigating the threat, and no further details have been released at this time.
Passengers are reported to be safe as the situation is being monitored.
Commenting on the incident, a spokesperson of Air India said, “A specific security alert was received on Air India flight Al119 that was operating from Mumbai to JFK on October 14. On the request of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), the aviation security regulator, the flight was diverted to Delhi and has landed safely. All passengers have disembarked and are at the Delhi airport terminal.”
“Our colleagues on the ground are making sure to minimise the inconvenience caused to our guests by this unexpected disruption. Air India is committed to and accords top priority to the safety and security of its passengers and crew,” the spokesperson said.
