As tensions in West Asia escalate, Air India on Tuesday said it will progressively resume flights to the region, as airspaces in certain parts of the Middle East are beginning to reopen.

The airline also confirmed that services to and from Europe, which had previously been cancelled, would resume with effect from today.

In a statement, an Air India spokesperson stated, “With airspaces gradually reopening in some areas of the Middle East, Air India will progressively resume flights to the region from today, with the majority of operations to and from the Middle East resuming from 25 June.”

Flights between Europe and India, which were earlier suspended, are also being progressively reinstated from today, while services to and from the East Coast of the US and Canada will resume at the earliest opportunity.

The airline warned, however, that “some flights may face delays or cancellations due to consequential impacts and extended re-routings/flight durations,” but assured travellers that it is “committed to minimising disruptions and restoring our schedule integrity.”

The spokesperson also reaffirmed that the airline will continue to avoid airspaces currently assessed as unsafe.

The travel disruptions which followed a sharp escalation in middle eastern region tensions on Monday, when Iran reportedly launched several missiles targeting United States military bases in Qatar and Iraq.

According to an international media report, the barrage included an attack on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest American military installation in the country.

The missile strikes are widely viewed as a retaliatory response from Iran, following recent US airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities—Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow—in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Two US officials briefed on the matter told the media that the US is actively tracking multiple missiles launched from Iranian territory.

A White House spokesperson confirmed that US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, are currently in the Situation Room, closely monitoring the unfolding developments.

Earlier, Iranian state media reported that Iran had initiated what it described as an operation against a US base in Qatar.
Samaa TV, citing Iranian sources, referred to the offensive as Operation Basharat al-Fath, targeting several American installations in the region.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry, reacting to the missile strikes, confirmed via X (formerly Twitter) that its government had temporarily closed its airspace due to heightened security concerns.

The US Embassy in Doha also issued a security advisory, urging American citizens in Qatar and Bahrain to seek shelter until further notice.
