On Monday, a Delhi court remanded Al Falah University founder Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui to 14-day judicial custody in connection with a terror-linked money laundering case.
Siddiqui had earlier been granted 13 days of Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody by the court on November 19. On Monday, he was produced before Additional Sessions Judge Sheetal Chaudhary Pradhan, who directed that he be sent to judicial custody till December 15.
During the brief hearing, the ED counsel submitted that producing the accused before the court was premature, as the 13-day custody period would technically conclude only at 1 a.m. on Tuesday, meaning Monday was still the 12th day of custody.
Separately, an application was filed by Siddiqui’s lawyer requesting that the accused be provided access to his prescribed medicines and spectacles while in custody. The court allowed the plea. The ED officials submitted Siddiqui’s medical prescription in court, following which the judge directed the jail authorities to ensure continuity of the prescribed medical treatment.

The agency has previously alleged that Al Falah University had falsely claimed recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and misrepresented its NAAC accreditation status to enrol students. It further stated that the institution generated revenue of Rs 415.10 crore between 2018 and 2025, recording a “meteoric rise” in earnings that did not correspond with the financial records or the assets accumulated by the group.
The ED informed the court that fees collected from students and funds raised from the public were being diverted for personal and private purposes and that Siddiqui exercised de facto control over the Al Falah Charitable Trust, its managing trustee, and all related entities.
On the day of his arrest, searches conducted by the agency at 19 premises across Delhi-NCR led to the recovery of approximately Rs 48 lakh in cash, officials had stated. The case will next be taken up by the court on December 15, upon the expiry of the present judicial custody period.
