Republic Day parade to showcase 39 aircraft formations.

The Defence Secretary, Rajesh Kumar Singh, has confirmed that this year’s Republic Day flypast will not feature the indigenously designed Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH).

Speaking at a press conference, Singh stated that 39 other aircraft will participate in the flypast, showcasing 12 different formations.

The decision comes after the tragic crash of an ALH belonging to the Coast Guard on 5 January in Porbandar, Gujarat, which claimed the lives of three personnel.

Following this incident, the armed forces grounded the entire fleet of ALH helicopters, comprising around 330 twin-engine choppers, as a precautionary measure.

Singh also emphasised that while the Republic Day parade will retain its military and martial character, there will be increased representation of cultural and societal elements to ensure a broader participation.

This approach aims to highlight India’s rich diversity alongside its defence capabilities.

Preparations for the grand event are already underway. On Monday, rehearsals took place at Kartavya Path, featuring MI-17 V-5 helicopters, Apache attack helicopters, Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launchers, and various types of All-Terrain Vehicles.

The event promises to be a grand spectacle, blending military precision with cultural vibrancy.

As part of enhanced security measures leading up to Republic Day on 26 January, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has intensified passenger checks across Metro stations in Delhi.

These measures will remain in effect until 27 January. Commuters have been advised to account for additional time for their journeys during this period, as queues at Metro stations, particularly during peak hours, are expected. Authorities have appealed to passengers to cooperate with security personnel to ensure smooth operations.

Adding to the excitement of this year’s celebrations, the Indian Army’s Motorcycle Rider Display Team, famously known as the “Daredevils,” achieved a remarkable feat on 20 January at Kartavya Path in New Delhi.

The team created a world record for the highest human pyramid on moving motorcycles. The formation, which stood at an impressive height of 20.4 feet, consisted of 40 men mounted on seven motorcycles.

The team covered a distance of 2 kilometres, starting from Vijay Chowk and concluding at India Gate.

The Daredevils, hailing from the Corps of Signals, have a legacy of excellence and international recognition for their daring performances. Their latest achievement further cements their reputation for unmatched skill and precision.
