AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan has come under legal scrutiny after being accused of obstructing a police operation in Jamia Nagar. The incident took place when the Delhi Police Crime Branch attempted to detain Shahbaz Khan, who was facing charges related to an attempt-to-murder case.
As the officers carried out the arrest, Amanatullah Khan allegedly intervened, questioning the legitimacy of the action and insisting that the suspect was not a criminal.
The situation escalated as the AAP legislator engaged in a heated exchange with the officers. In the midst of the commotion, Shahbaz Khan managed to escape, evading police custody.
The Crime Branch subsequently lodged a complaint against Amanatullah Khan, leading to the registration of a case against him. He has been booked on multiple charges, including offences related to organised crime.
Following the incident, Delhi Police launched a joint operation to apprehend the Okhla MLA. Teams from the Jamia Nagar police station, South East District, and the Crime Branch have been conducting raids to locate and arrest him.
However, he has not been found at his residence, and his mobile phone remains switched off. Sources indicate that Amanatullah Khan may approach the Delhi High Court for anticipatory bail in an attempt to avoid immediate arrest.
The police have also increased security in Jamia Nagar and around Khan’s residence, anticipating potential unrest. Given the political significance of the case, the developments have drawn widespread attention.
Amanatullah Khan, a three-time MLA from Okhla, recently secured another victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, defeating BJP candidate Manish Chaudhary.
