Delhi Police arrived at the residence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Amanatullah Khan on Monday after reports surfaced that his supporters had allegedly freed a murder accused from police custody.
The incident has sparked political and legal discussions, as authorities investigate the claims.
A video shared, showed police personnel outside Khan’s house. The AAP leader, who represents Okhla in the Delhi Assembly, has not yet issued a statement on the matter. However, one of his aides said they were unaware of the reasons behind the police visit.
"We don’t know what the matter is. We work in the office, and when the police arrived, the doors were shut. They asked us to open them for a check, and we cooperated. There is nothing inside. They have not disclosed why they are here," the aide told the media.
Khan, a prominent AAP leader, was previously arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with alleged irregularities in the Delhi Waqf Board (DWB) money laundering case. He was granted bail on 15 November last year, two months after his arrest.
Meanwhile, Khan recently secured victory in the Okhla Assembly seat, winning for the third consecutive time.
He defeated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Manish Chaudhary by a margin of 23,639 votes. The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) candidate, Shifa Ur Rehman, finished third with 39,558 votes.
According to data released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) after 23 rounds of counting, Khan secured 88,943 votes, while the BJP and AIMIM candidates garnered 65,304 and 39,558 votes, respectively.
Following his victory, Khan accused the Congress party of focusing more on defeating AAP than securing its own electoral success. He alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi campaigned in Okhla not to win but to weaken AAP’s chances.
"The Congress contested the election not to win but to ensure our defeat. Rahul Gandhi came to campaign in my constituency for the first time ever. They knew they had no chance of winning but were determined to make us lose," Khan told the media.
