The Amarnath yatra was suspended on Tuesday on both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes in Jammu and Kashmir due to inclement weather conditions and slippery slopes following heavy rainfall earlier in the week, officials reported.

While pilgrims stranded at the Srinagar camp hoped for the resumption of the yatra on both tracks, authorities have deemed travel on the designated routes unsafe.

“We learned that the yatra has been suspended for some reason and have heard now that it will be resuming today.

We will pay obeisance for sure,” a pilgrim said while interacting with mediapersons at the Pantha Chowk base in Srinagar.

He also praised security personnel for special arrangements, saying, “The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and all the local police authorities here cooperate with the pilgrims. We are being treated well.”

He encouraged others to visit Kashmir, noting improvements in the security situation. “Everyone should visit Kashmir. Now the situation has completely changed. Thanks to the Government of India.”

This year's Yatra has broken all previous records, with over 4.3 lakh pilgrims paying obeisance at the holy Amarnath Shrine.

The visiting pilgrims have expressed satisfaction with the arrangements and complimented the security measures provided by the local administration.

Additionally, the local population has played a crucial part in making this year's Yatra a success.

The annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath shrine began on June 29. This year, the 52-day-long pilgrimage is scheduled to culminate on August 19.
