Amarnath Yatra has been suspended on both routes due to heavy rains and maintenance work. The Baltal route was closed on Sunday following torrential downpours, while the Pahalgam route has been shut since Wednesday for urgent repairs.
Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, V K Bhiduri announced that no yatra will be allowed on the Baltal route on Monday, citing safety concerns for the pilgrims. He stated that heavy rains have necessitated immediate repair and maintenance work on the Baltal axis.
"Due to the heavy rains, urgent repair and maintenance work is required to be undertaken on the Baltal axis of the Amarnath Yatra. In the interest of the safety of the yatris, no yatra will be allowed tomorrow from the Baltal route also," he said.
Over 5.10 lakh devotees have already paid homage to Lord Shiva at the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine this year. The Amarnath Yatra, which commenced on June 29, is scheduled to conclude on August 19.
Further updates on the yatra's status will be issued in due course, according to Bhiduri. The suspension of the yatra on both routes has raised concerns among pilgrims, who are eagerly awaiting the resumption of the sacred journey.
