Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, urging Speaker Om Birla to take firm action against members who were disrupting External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s speech on Operation Sindoor. Shah asserted that if such interruptions continued unchecked, the government would struggle to maintain discipline among its own MPs in the House.
“When their speakers were talking, we listened patiently. Many of them were even peddling lies, which I will expose tomorrow. But even then, we kept quiet and swallowed those lies. But they cannot even tolerate the truth,” Shah said, addressing the Speaker while the Opposition continued to create disruptions during Jaishankar’s address.
He strongly criticised the Opposition’s behaviour, saying it was inappropriate for them to repeatedly needle the External Affairs Minister during his official briefing on a matter of national security. “Mr. Speaker, I think you should grant protection to the minister. Everyone knows how to provoke others. It’s not that we don’t know how to respond. If you don’t tell them to stop firmly, we won’t be able to stop our MPs either,” he warned, clearly frustrated by the continued interruptions.

Earlier, Shah also took direct aim at the Congress for casting doubt on Jaishankar’s statement that no mediation by the United States took place in ending the recent India-Pakistan conflict. “The Foreign Minister of India, who has taken an oath under the Constitution and holds responsibility, is giving a statement in Parliament. And the Opposition refuses to believe him? They believe foreign powers instead,” Shah said.
In a biting remark aimed at the Congress, Shah said, “This is exactly why they are sitting in the Opposition, and they will continue to sit there for the next 20 years. Their trust in foreign narratives over their own External Affairs Minister is the reason for their prolonged irrelevance in Indian politics.”
Shah accused the Opposition of politicising issues of national interest and undermining the dignity of Parliament by imposing party politics during crucial debates. He reiterated that such behaviour not only disrespects constitutional authority but also damages India's global image when elected representatives refuse to stand united on matters of national security.
