Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently engaged in discussions with the Chief Ministers of Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Mizoram to address the challenges posed by Cyclone Remal.
Additionally, he provided Prime Minister Narendra Modi with an overview of the situation following the cyclone's impact.
During separate telephonic conversations with the respective Chief Ministers, Shah obtained detailed updates on the condition in each of the five northeastern states. He reassured them of the Central government's commitment to offering all necessary assistance.
Expressing his concern for the affected regions, Shah took to social media to share his thoughts. In a post on 'X', he highlighted the devastation caused by Cyclone Remal and underscored the government's solidarity with those affected. Shah emphasised the ongoing efforts to provide support to those who have suffered losses and injuries.
The aftermath of Cyclone Remal has resulted in significant loss of life and widespread damage across the northeastern states. Flash floods, heavy rainfall, and landslides have affected over two lakh individuals. The region's connectivity has been severely impacted, with railway tracks submerged and sections of highways collapsing due to landslides.
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has been compelled to cancel several train services bound for south Assam, Tripura, Manipur, and Mizoram due to the inundation of railway tracks.
Furthermore, the collapse of a section of National Highway 6 on Thursday has exacerbated the challenges faced by the affected states, particularly in terms of transportation.
As the situation unfolds, the government continues to closely monitor developments and provide assistance to the affected areas. The priority remains on ensuring the safety and well-being of those impacted by Cyclone Remal and its aftermath.
