Anmol Bishnoi, brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and wanted in various criminal cases, has been extradited from the United States. He is accused in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui. Indian agencies had requested his extradition. He will reach New Delhi on Wednesday morning along with 199 deportees sent back by the Trump administration.
A flight carrying Anmol Bishnoi, two fugitives wanted by Punjab Police, as well as other deportees has already taken off from the US. Officials said the aircraft is scheduled to land at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at 10 am on Wednesday.
Anmol, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, faces multiple cases across India. These include the murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddiqui and the firing outside actor Salman Khan’s Mumbai home in April 2024.
Intelligence inputs show that Anmol left India in April 2022 on a fake passport. This was just weeks before Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead on May 29, 2022, in Mansa, Punjab. A police officer confirmed that Anmol is being deported from the US and is expected to reach Delhi on Wednesday.
Mumbai Police had submitted two requests for his extradition. Since he is wanted in several states, the Union government will decide which agency will take his custody first. Officials called the deportation a major multi-agency operation. Mumbai Police will also seek his custody after he arrives.
Earlier this month, agencies got information that Anmol had been arrested in Canada. He was reportedly travelling frequently between the US and Canada and was carrying a Russian passport made with fake documents. He had also been detained in the US last November. The NIA had announced a reward of Rs for clues leading to his arrest.
Anmol’s name had appeared in the probes into the killings of Sidhu Moosewala and Baba Siddiqui. Zeeshan Siddiqui, son of the slain NCP leader, said he had received an email confirming Anmol’s removal from the US. He said this showed that Anmol was no longer in America and would now have to face trial in India.
Baba Siddiqui was shot dead on October 12, 2024, outside Zeeshan’s office in Bandra. Later, police detained several members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in the case.
Mumbai Police invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in the matter. A total of 26 people were detained, while Anmol Bishnoi, Shubham Lonkar and Zishan Mohammed Akhtar were listed as wanted accused.
