An intense gunfight between terrorists and security forces erupted in the remote Doda forest area of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, officials said.
The gunfight began when security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Ghadi Bhagwah forest after receiving information about the presence of terrorists.
Heavy firing was ongoing between both sides at the time of the latest reports, officials added.
It is believed that two to three terrorists have been trapped by the security forces in the dense forests.
Earlier on Monday, five security personnel were killed when terrorists ambushed their vehicles in Machedi, Kathua.
The ambush quickly escalated into an encounter, during which five more security personnel were injured while defending their position.
Following the attack, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by the forces to apprehend the terrorists responsible.
Similarly, on June 26, three terrorists were killed and a policeman was injured in a day-long anti-terror operation in Jammu region’s Doda district.
Among the recovered items were a US-made M4 rifle and a handset. The hiding militants were engaged in a fierce firefight before being neutralised.
This is a developing story, and further details are awaited.
