The security forces in J&K intensified their anti-terror operations in several districts of the Jammu region on Saturday.
Reports indicate the anti-operations are being conducted in parts of Udhampur, Poonch, Rajouri, and Kishtwar districts, following a recent encounter in the upper reaches of the district in which two army personnel, including a junior commissioned officer (JCO), sacrificed their lives and two terrorists were also killed, officials said on Saturday.
A joint combing operation is currently going on in the forests of Pingnal Dugadda in the Chhatroo belt of Kishtwar district, which has now entered its second day today.
The Army has rushed reinforcements to assist the troops already engaged in an operation to hunt down the terrorists responsible for killing two army soldiers and injuring two others in a firefight on Friday, they said.
The officials added that due to the vast, rugged, and mountainous terrain, security forces are utilising all means available, including the deployment of drones to enhance aerial surveillance and also track down the hiding terrorists, who managed to escape after a brief encounter amid the darkness and the dense foliage.
So far, no fresh contact has been established with the terrorists, they said.
Furthermore, a massive search operation is underway in the upper reaches of Khandara Top, Kudwah, and Raichak in the Basantgarh area of the Udhampur district, where two foreign terrorists of the Jaish group were killed in an encounter on September 11, they added.
Additionally, the security forces are also carrying out combing operations in the Surankote area of the Poonch district and Nowshera, followed by Thanamandi in the Rajouri district.
With elections in J&K just around the corner, security forces have increased their surveillance around the sensitive spots of Jammu and Kashmir.
On Friday, the Army chief reviewed the formations at the forward locations, besides this, he also met with LG Manoj Sinha to take stock of the ongoing security issues in the Kashmir valley ahead of the Assembly polls.
