BJP's Anurag Thakur Criticises Salman Khurshid And Congress For Remarks on Bangladesh Crisis.

In a sharp response to Congress leader Salman Khurshid’s comments about the situation in Bangladesh, BJP MP Anurag Thakur has accused the Congress party of trying to instigate a state of anarchy in India. Thakur’s remarks came after Khurshid suggested that violent protests like those occurring in Bangladesh could potentially happen in India.

Thakur criticised Khurshid’s statement as reflective of the Congress party’s mindset. He claimed that the party, facing consecutive electoral losses, is resorting to tactics that could destabilise the country.

According to Thakur, the Congress is willing to undermine national stability to return to power. He questioned whether the party condoned Khurshid’s remarks and emphasised that such statements only highlight the party's negative intentions.

In response to the controversy, Salman Khurshid chose not to delve further into the matter. He stated that he speaks openly in public forums and does not make private comments on such issues.

Despite Khurshid’s attempt to distance himself from the controversy, the BJP has sharply criticised him. BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla accused Khurshid of attempting to provoke and incite unrest in India, suggesting that his statements undermine Indian democracy and armed forces.

The BJP’s criticism extends to a broader accusation that the Congress prioritises political gains over national interests. Poonawalla pointed out that while the Congress claims to support the Indian government’s stance on Bangladesh, Khurshid’s comments seem to contradict this position. The BJP views this as a deliberate attempt by Congress to prioritise political strategy over national security.

Amid the ongoing political unrest in Bangladesh, the Indian High Commission has remained operational. The High Commission has provided helpline numbers for Indian nationals residing in Bangladesh and has ensured that its diplomats continue to work there. While non-essential staff and their families have been evacuated, the core team remains in place to assist Indian citizens.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also addressed the situation, informing the Lok Sabha that there are approximately 19,000 Indian nationals in Bangladesh, including around 9,000 students.

Jaishankar noted that most students had returned to India in July and reassured that the government is closely monitoring the situation and maintaining contact with the Indian community in Dhaka.

The BJP’s strong reaction to Khurshid’s comments reflects ongoing political tensions. The Congress party faces criticism for its perceived role in escalating the situation, while the Indian government continues to manage its response to the unrest in Bangladesh and support its nationals affected by the crisis.
