AR Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, have decided to part ways after nearly three decades of marriage. The couple, who tied the knot in 1995 through an arranged marriage, has been known for their private life and focus on family values.

 

The news of their separation was confirmed through an official statement from Saira Banu's lawyer, Vandana Shah, highlighting the emotional strain and irreconcilable differences in their relationship.

 

The statement described the decision as deeply painful for both parties, citing that despite their love for each other, they found it impossible to bridge the gap created by their differences.

 

It further mentioned that Saira Banu made this decision after enduring significant emotional challenges. She has requested privacy and understanding as she navigates this difficult phase, emphasising the need for space for her and her family.

 

The couple share three children: daughters Khatija and Raheema, and son Ameen. Rahman, a celebrated music composer, has often spoken about his family with affection and gratitude.

 

Their marriage was arranged by Rahman’s mother, as he shared in an earlier interview with Simi Garewal. At the time, he had been deeply engrossed in his music career, working on iconic films like Rangeela.

 

Trusting his mother, he had asked her to find him a bride who would complement his life and inspire him creatively. He had expressed a desire for a simple partner who would support his focus on music.
