Newly appointed Army Chief, General Upendra Dwivedi undertook his first visit to the Northeast, assessing the security situation along the China border in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
During his two-day tour, General Dwivedi reviewed all Corps formations under the Eastern Army Command, including the 3 Corps headquartered in Dimapur.
He was extensively briefed on the current situation in Manipur, which has been plagued by ethnic violence over the past year.
Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and West Bengal
Starting his tour on Thursday, General Dwivedi visited the Tezpur-based Gajraj 4 Corps, receiving updates on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China and the operational readiness of Indian forces.
The 4 Corps is responsible for the Tawang sector in Arunachal Pradesh, a critical area along the LAC.
In Sikkim, the Army Chief reviewed ongoing infrastructure projects during his visit to the Sukna-based 33 Corps headquarters.
This formation oversees the LAC in Sikkim and has additional responsibilities in West Bengal.
Eastern command overview
The 3 Corps, responsible for the rest of Arunachal Pradesh, and the 33 Corps, managing Sikkim, play pivotal roles in maintaining security along the contentious border with China.
General Dwivedi’s visit underscores the strategic importance of these regions and the need for continued vigilance and development.
Accompanied by Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen RC Tewari, this visit marks General Dwivedi’s first tour of the Northeast since assuming office on June 30.
