India-Bhutan defence ties -
Based on shared geopolitical interests, mutual trust, and regional security, India and Bhutan have a long-standing and strategic defence partnership. Under the 1949 Treaty of Friendship, which was updated in 2007 to grant Bhutanese more autonomy while bolstering security cooperation, the two countries have maintained a close working relationship.
The Royal Bhutan Army and Royal Bodyguard receive substantial training, armament supplies, and logistical support from India. The partnership came to light during the Doklam standoff in 2017 when cooperation between Bhutan and India was essential in thwarting Chinese territorial claims.
Overall, India continues to be Bhutan's main defence ally, demonstrating their close relationship and dedication to preserving peace and stability.
