The Indian Army issued a tender to buy six AK-630 30mm guns from a state-owned firm — a key purchase as part of the Mission Sudarshan Chakra. These guns will protect population centres and centres of faith close to the border with Pakistan.

"Indian Army Air Defence has floated an RFP for the procurement of six AK630 Air Defence Gun Systems* with Advanced Weapon and Equipment India Ltd (AWEIL). The system sought is a 30mm multi-barrel mobile air defence gun system with a high rate of fire," defence officials informed.

The gun system will be mounted on a trailer and towed by a high mobility vehicle, and will have a range of up to 4km with a cyclic rate of fire of up to 3000 rounds per minute. Detection is achieved through an all-weather Electro-Optical Fire Control system. The system will also form one of the important pillars of the Sudarshan Chakra shield being developed and will be integrated into the overall air defence architecture.

"AK630 will be utilised to thwart the threat from URAM (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Rocket, Artillery and Mortar) and will be used for the protection of key population centres and Centres of Faith* in close proximity to the international border and Line of Control, they said.

The mission -
By 2035, India plans to build a comprehensive, multi-layered, domestic security shield called Sudarshan Chakra, which will integrate air defence, cyber security, and surveillance systems to defend vital installations against a range of enemy attacks. In line with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative to increase self-reliance in defence technology, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the mission on India's Independence Day in 2025 with the dual goals of providing a defensive barrier and the potential for offensive capability.

Meanwhile, the Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi had sternly warned Pakistan on Friday, saying the neighbour must stop sponsoring terrorism on its soil, if it does not want to be removed from the world map.
