Army pays tributes to JCO martyred in Kishtwar encounter

Army jawans pay their last respects to Naib Subedar Rakesh Kumar, who was killed in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir's Kishtwar district.


A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Air Force station in Jammu to pay homage to Naib Subedar Rakesh Kumar, who sacrificed his life while battling the militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Sunday.

 

Naib Subedar Rakesh Kumar of 2 Para (SF) lost his life during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Sunday, the army said.

The army on Sunday launched a search operation in the forest area to nab the attackers involved in the killing of two village guards in Kishtwar.

 

Earlier, in a post on X, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the White Knight Corps and all ranks honoured the sacrifice of Naib Subedar Rakesh Kumar of 2 Para (SF).

 

In another post on X, the Indian Army said, “Sub Rakesh was part of a joint CT (counter-insurgency) operation launched in the general area of Bhart Ridge area of Kishtwar district on November 9, 2024. We stand with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.”

 

As per the official confirmation by the J&K police, the gunfight occurred in the Keshwan area, with three to four militants believed to be trapped in the area.

 

A search operation led by the security forces along with police and CRPF is currently underway in the Saranwan area of the Kishtwar district to track down the militants hiding in the forest area.

 

Further reinforcements have been rushed to the encounter site as the situation in the area remains tense following the killing of the soldier and two village guards killed earlier on Thursday.
