Authorities have issued an alert across Jammu region ahead of the fifth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5. Intelligence agencies and security forces have fortified sensitive areas within the division.

The Army, police, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have intensified vigilance in the districts of Doda, Rajouri, Poonch, Kathua, Jammu, and Kishtwar after receiving inputs suggesting that terrorists might attempt to disrupt peace.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of Jammu region, Anand Jain, convened a meeting on Monday evening to review the security situation for August 5 and for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations across the Union Territory.

On August 5, 2019, the Indian government revoked Article 370, which granted special autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir, through a Presidential Order and a parliamentary resolution.

The order applied all provisions of the Indian Constitution to the region, while the resolution, passed by both houses of Parliament, recommended abrogation of most of Article 370 and reorganised the state into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

The President's subsequent declaration formalised the abrogation, marking the end of the region's special status.

Security forces are also collaborating with the civil administration to prepare for these significant events.

The Jammu division has recently experienced a series of terror attacks, and reports indicate that highly trained terrorists are present in the forest areas of the region.

During the meeting chaired by Jain, discussions were held on the intelligence inputs shared by the Army, CRPF, BSF, and CID, ensuring a coordinated approach to address any security concerns.

ADGP Jain emphasised the importance of inter-agency cooperation to mitigate threats and called for heightened vigilance in border areas and the hinterland to prevent infiltration attempts.

The regional authorities remain on high alert and are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety and security of the region during these critical dates.
